The breeding Ayrshire de la genevrelle

" I am convinced that it is necessary for us to be ready to defend our values and not to be allowed to grow by the dominant winds, opposite to our deep convictions, whatever are their forces. "

The organisation is located in Padoux, in Vosges (Northeast of France). It consist of two members today: Philippe and his wife Françoise

It began in 1965, with about fifteen dairy cows of French Frisian breed. Then, the objectives of the farm were to have for the first time in France Canadian Holsteins in order to increase the value of the herd. And so the first pure Holsteins were imported from Canada. The farm achieved exceptional production. In 1986, the organisation was rewarded with second place in production by a cow giving 9 800 kg / VL and the year after in first place with a 11 670 kg / VL production. The genetics also holds an important place because 400 embryos were sold by exploitation. Numerous cows resulting from the breeding became famous such as Style Midge pointed EX 98 and Terruche with a 15 600 kg production in first lactation!

In 1992, during a stay in Canada, Philippe was seduced by the characteristics and the trump cards of the Ayrshire breed. So, to test them in the context of his organisation, 3 Ayrshire females were imported. Completely satisfied by the potential and by his perspectives, he pursued the integration of Ayrshire blood into his herd by importing embryos and practising the crossing by absorption. At the moment, the quasi-totality of the crowd, more than 100 dairy cows, is covered all with Ayrshire blood.
Today, one of the objectives of Philippe and Françoise is to make known and promote this excellent breed. So, the Genevrelle Ayrshire breeding, through the association, participates in demonstrations at the Agricultural Show of Paris or at Eurogenetic (Epinal). In 2001, during Simagena, the organisation presented on the France Ayrshire stand, five remarkable Ayrshire heifers. One of them, Charlotown, who is to be noted for finishing spare champion in the inter breed competition. The organisation, worried of breed concentrating it's breeding in France, imports Ayrshire embryos from the best Canadian cows. So the breed develops in France by the best origin. Finally, bulls from embryos create interest for many French breeders to obtain animals with promising potential.
